First, make sure to confirm your enrollment by the deadline.

Once you have confirmed your enrollment, you should follow the New Student Checklist for next steps and additional resources. 

To access your Unity account for the first time, visit the New Student Checklist for instructions. If you need to reset your password, visit the Password Assistance webpage. For additional help with password resets or login issues, contact the NC State Help Desk at 919.515.HELP (4357) or help@ncsu.edu.

Student course registration is completed through your MyPack Portal. Registration can only be completed after you’ve consulted with an academic advisor. You can find your advisor and other coordinators of undergraduate advising here. 

Holds on your account may prevent you from enrolling in the upcoming term. An advising hold is placed on your account until you have completed academic advising. To view your holds, navigate to MyPack Portal > Student Homepage > Tasks & Holds tile.

You must submit an official final transcript from all institutions you attended prior to enrolling at NC State. Final acceptance is contingent on your maintaining a level of academic performance that is equal to or better than your previous academic record. Failure to submit an official final transcript will cancel your enrollment.

Your official final transcript must include your final grades and graduation date. Contact your school to have your transcript sent electronically or by mail to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions.

Official scores must be received directly from the testing agency. Undergraduate Admissions does not accept scores from high school or college transcripts.

To ensure you are registered in courses that suit your skill level, placement tests and skills assessments are offered – and sometimes required – in certain subjects such as math, English, chemistry and foreign languages.

Transfer students who are admitted will be able to view a preliminary transfer credit report on MyPack Portal. Some of your courses may still be under review, but you are able to see a preliminary report to view how your credits will transfer.

We have 20 residence halls located throughout campus, on-campus apartments options and Living and Learning Villages. You can learn more about housing opportunities and the process to apply for housing here. 

All first-year students (students entering college for the first time) living in on-campus housing are required to have a meal plan. Transfer students are not required to have a meal plan. To learn more, visit dining.ncsu.edu/meal-plans/. You can make any changes to your meal plan for the fall semester by September 15 and spring semester by January 25.

Admitted students can begin applying for scholarships via our scholarship portal, PackASSIST.

To apply for scholarships, login to PackASSIST with your MyPack credentials and complete the general application. After you complete the General Application, you may see a College supplemental application or Other Recommended Opportunities. This means more information is being requested. Review the description(s) and, if you qualify and want to apply, complete the additional questions.

Students who wish to be considered for federal, state and institutional financial aid must submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). NC State as a priority filing deadline of March 1. However, due to the high number of FAFSA applications received, grant funding is awarded on a first come, first served basis. It’s important to submit the FAFSA and any other requested information as soon as possible. 

If you are admitted and wish to change your major, we will review your requested major change on a space available basis. You will need to submit a Major Change Request form located in your wolfPAW portal by the listed deadline. Keep in mind that you may only submit the Major Change Request form once. Agricultural Institute (AGI) admits should email undergrad-admissions@ncsu.edu with any major change questions.

Spring Deadlines

• First-year and transfer admits major change deadline: December 1

Undergraduate Admissions no longer makes any residency determinations. As of February 20, 2017, all undergraduate residency decisions are made by the Residency Determination Service of North Carolina (RDS).

To update your residency classification:

• Log in to your MyPackPortal and navigate to the section where your residency information is located:
  • Student homepage > Personal Information tile > Residency Information
• From this screen, verify the RCN displayed is correct.
• If it isn’t, re-enter it and click “Save RCN.” Once the RCN has been verified as correct, click “Request Residency Data” button to pull the latest information from RDS.
• If the tuition residency reads as in-state and there is a Y next to Match and a Y next to Validated, the student will be paying in-state tuition.
• If there is a N next to Match, it may mean the RCN on file with RDS does not match the information the student has provided. If there is a N next to Validated, RDS has not validated the in-state status yet and it will be updated in the next few weeks.
• If your expiration date is before the start of the fall semester, your residency status will show as out-of-state. You will need to complete the residency form again through RDS before the expiration date if you believe you should have in-state tuition status.

Admitted first-year and transfer undergraduate students who do not plan to enroll as a full-time student at another institution may request a gap term for a maximum of two semesters for any of the following reasons: medical, military service, required religious observance, travel or work. Students who have been offered provisional admission are not eligible to request a gap term. Email our office at undergrad-admissions@ncsu.edu to request more information.

Students planning to request a gap term/defer their enrollment do not need to pay the enrollment deposit until the semester they plan to enroll.

Transfer Credit Limits

Applicants admitted for fall who defer their enrollment to spring are able to take up to two courses at another institution during the fall semester.

Applicants admitted for fall who defer their enrollment to the next fall are able to take up to two courses during the fall semester and up to two courses in the spring semester (no more than four courses during the gap year).

Gap Term Request Deadlines

If you are interested in deferring your enrollment/ taking a gap term, please email our office at undergrad-admissions@ncsu.edu to request a “GAP Request Form” be placed on your wolfPAW account.

• Students admitted for the fall semester who are requesting a gap term must submit the “GAP Request Form” through wolfPAW by August 1.
• Students admitted for the spring semester who are requesting a gap term must submit the “GAP Request Form” through wolfPAW by December 15.
