How Does it Work?

We’re committed to helping you find the best path to your future. If we aren’t able to offer you admission, the Choose NC Program provides a streamlined way for you to automatically apply to other universities within the University of North Carolina (UNC) System.

You’ll have the ability to opt in to the Choose NC Program on your first-year NC State application. If we are unable to offer you admission, we will automatically send your application to the College Foundation, Inc. (the University of North Carolina System technology partner) who will ensure it is routed to the UNC System universities you select on your NC State application. These universities will then reach out to you directly with information about next steps. 

What You Need to Know

• Opting into this program will not affect your application for admission to NC State.
• If you’re already planning to apply to any of the UNC System schools listed as Choose NC participants, we encourage you to apply directly to each school to make sure you’re considered for any special opportunities they offer (e.g. honors programs, scholarships, etc.).
• Your application will only be sent to the Choose NC schools you selected on your application if we are unable to offer you admission to NC State. 
• Each university has its own dedicated admissions and financial aid teams that will be ready to assist you once they receive your application.
• Applicants who are offered a position on our waitlist are still under consideration for admission. Because applications are only shared through the Choose NC process after a denied decision, and waitlist decisions are released later in the admissions cycle, it’s possible that applicants who opt into Choose NC may not have their application automatically shared with the UNC System universities they selected. Applying directly to the participating UNC System universities they are interested in early in the application cycle can help keep their options open.
• Students who are denied admission later in the admissions cycle should note that their application may not be automatically forwarded to the UNC System universities they selected due to timing. Depending on how late in the cycle they receive a denied decision, they may also have limited opportunities to apply directly to other UNC System universities.
