Forming Connections Through Spring Connect

Spring Connect admit Keilea Yannotti provides insight on how she has acclimated to life at NC State after her first semester on campus.

For Keilea Yannotti, a military child from Fayetteville, NC, the Spring Connect program offered a unique opportunity to begin her journey at NC State in a way that fit her goals and aspirations. With a passion for biochemistry and a dream of becoming a neuropathologist, Keilea embraced the chance to make the most of her fall semester before starting on campus in the spring.

Every year, NC State’s Spring Connect program welcomes a select group of first-year students to campus in January, filling spaces created by December graduates. This program allows students to take advantage of the fall semester in a way that works best for them — whether that’s taking classes at a community college, gaining hands-on experience through work or exploring the world through travel.

Keilea chose to spend her fall semester in the Prague Connect fall program, where she immersed herself in a new culture, built lasting friendships and traveled to 10 different countries. The program also gave her the opportunity to connect with other NC State students, creating a strong support system before she even set foot on campus.

“I absolutely loved this program and highly recommend any student to consider studying abroad for a semester. It’s a great way to connect with other students and see the world.”

Her time abroad not only gave her unforgettable experiences but also helped her transition seamlessly to life at NC State. The friends she made during the program provided her with an established support system, and the classes she took helped her get back into the rhythm of academic life.

Prague Connect

This unique program offers Spring Connect students the opportunity to earn NC State credits while spending the fall semester at the NC State European Center in Prague. The structured study abroad experience helps students build a strong academic foundation and adjust to college life before officially starting their degree programs in January.

Since arriving on campus, Keilea has fully embraced the NC State experience. She’s joined the NCSU Pre-Med Club and the National Organization for Rare Disorders (NORD), where she’s connected with peers who share her passion for medicine and research. She’s also taken on a leadership role as a resident advisor, building meaningful relationships within her community.

The Spring Connect program gave Keilea the chance to recharge and explore before starting her college journey. It allowed her to take a step back after her hard work in high school and experience something truly unique. While starting in the spring meant waiting a little longer to experience NC State traditions on campus, it also gave her the opportunity to approach her college experience with a fresh perspective and a renewed sense of purpose.
