Information for Transfer Applicants: Request for Current Grades

We receive many strong applications for admission to NC State. In order to make the most informed admission decision, a portion of transfer applicants are asked to submit their current grades before receiving a final decision. This allows us to have a more complete picture of your overall academic performance.

Students should submit their current grades from the spring 2024 term within two weeks of being requested to submit current grades in order to receive a final decision on a rolling basis.

WHAT ARE CURRENT GRADES?

Current grades are the grades you have in your current courses-in-progress up until this point in the academic term. You may be able to view these grades in your student portal or through an online platform such as Moodle, Blackboard or Canvas. We understand that you might not have current grades for all of your courses, but we ask that you provide as much academic information as possible through the Report Your Current Grades form. We request that you enter the most recent cumulative grades you have in your current courses on the form.

An official transcript with your final grades in all current courses will be required if you are admitted and choose to enroll at NC State.

WHAT IF I AM NOT CURRENTLY TAKING ANY COURSES?

You can indicate that you are not taking any courses on the Report Your Current Grades form. We will consider the academic information we have on file along with the competitiveness of the applicant pool and the spaces available.

WHAT DOES IT MEAN IF I HAVE BEEN ASKED TO SUBMIT MY CURRENT GRADES BEFORE RECEIVING A FINAL DECISION?

This is not a final admission decision. We are requesting you submit your current grades to be considered in your final admission decision. This allows us to have a more complete picture of your overall academic performance and provides insight into your potential success at NC State. You should submit your current grades within two weeks of being requested to submit current grades.

HOW DO I SUBMIT MY ACADEMIC INFORMATION?

You should submit your current grades using the Report Your Current Grades form on your wolfPAW portal listed under Forms.

The Report Your Current Grades form asks for the following information:

  • Your current school name
  • How many courses you are taking during the spring 2024 term
  • The names of your current courses (example: MAT 271 Calculus I)
  • Your current grade in each course

The dropdown menu will allow you to select your current grade in each course, or mark that you are currently unable to provide a grade in the course.

Grade selections include:

  • A (100-90)
  • B (89-80)
  • C (79-70)
  • D (69-60)
  • F (below 60)
  • WF
  • I am unable to provide any grade information at this time
  • I withdrew from this course

There is an optional box on the form where you can share additional information or context about your current grades with the admissions office if needed.

We encourage you to complete and submit the form within two weeks of receiving the request for current grades.

WHEN SHOULD I EXPECT TO RECEIVE A FINAL DECISION?

Applicants can expect to receive a final decision about three to four weeks after submitting current grades.

I DO NOT HAVE A CURRENT GRADE TO REPORT FOR ONE OR MORE OF MY COURSES. WHAT SHOULD I DO?

You should still report all attempted courses on the form, and you will be able to indicate “I am unable to provide any grade information at this time” for those courses you do not have a current grade for.

WHAT HAPPENS IF I DO NOT SUBMIT MY CURRENT GRADES?

If you do not submit your current grades, your application will remain incomplete and we will assume you are no longer interested in being considered for admission at NC State.

WHAT ARE MY CHANCES OF BEING ADMITTED ONCE I PROVIDE MY CURRENT GRADES?

It is difficult to predict how many applicants we will be able to accept after receiving your current grades. Admission will depend on your academic credentials, the credentials of the other applicants and space availability.

WHAT, IF ANYTHING, CAN I DO TO IMPROVE MY CHANCES OF BEING ACCEPTED NOW?

Only your current grades are needed. This will provide additional context to your overall academic performance. Letters of recommendation, evaluative interviews and meeting with admissions staff members are not required or recommended.

IF I UPDATE OR CHANGE THE MAJOR ON MY APPLICATION WILL I HEAR BACK FASTER?

Requesting a major change or providing updated information will not change your current status. We will review all applicants who submit current grades and release decisions on a rolling basis.

WHAT CAN I DO IF I AM ULTIMATELY NOT OFFERED ACCEPTANCE BUT WANT TO ATTEND NC STATE IN THE FUTURE?

We are here to support your educational goals and encourage you to consider applying for a future semester. Our admissions staff is available to discuss your next steps. You can email us at undergrad-admissions@ncsu.edu or call us at 919-515-2434.
