Early Release FAQ

Our office released a portion of Early Action decisions for fall 2026 admission on December 19. We’ve answered the questions we anticipate applicants and their families will have below.

Why are some decisions being released early?

Our admissions team has been working hard to review applications as thoroughly and efficiently as possible. Because we’re slightly ahead of schedule, we’re able to release a portion of Early Action decisions early. We hope this helps some students plan ahead as they make their final decisions about college.

When will the rest of the Early Action decisions be released?

All remaining decisions for Early Action applicants will be released on January 30. Check your wolfPAW for your current application status.

How will I know if I’m included in the early release?

You’ll receive an email from NC State Admissions (wolfpaw@ncsu.edu) letting you know when your decision is available in your applicant portal. If you don’t get an update by December 19, your application is still under full consideration and you will receive a decision on January 30.

Does not hearing in December mean I’m less likely to be admitted?

Not receiving an offer of admission in December does not make you less likely to receive an admit decision on January 30. We are reviewing a record number of applications this cycle and want to give each one careful attention. While some Early Action decisions have been released, your application is still under active review due to the high volume. This timing has no impact on your final outcome. All remaining Early Action decisions, including those for many highly qualified applicants, will be released on January 30.

If I’m admitted, what should I do next?

Congratulations! You’ll find next steps in your wolfPAW portal, including information about applying for scholarships and how to confirm your enrollment.

Where will I see my decision?

All decisions are released in your wolfPAW portal. You’ll receive an email when your decision is ready, so check the inbox of the email you listed on your application.

Who should I contact if I have trouble accessing my decision?

You should have received instructions on how to set up your wolfPAW account when you started your application to NC State. This is where you will see your admission decision. If you have never set up an account or have forgotten your wolfPAW credentials, visit wolfpaw.ncsu.edu and click “Forgot Your Password?” Be sure to submit the email address and birthdate associated with your application. This will send you a new email with instructions to set up your wolfPAW account.

Does this affect regular decision applicants?

No, this early release only applies to Early Action applicants. Our regular decision timeline remains the same.

I received my offer of admission in December. When can I expect to receive my admit packet in the mail?

We begin sending admit packets in early February, and you can look for yours later that month. If you still have not received your packet by March, please contact our office at undergrad-admissions@ncsu.edu and we will ensure a packet is sent out to you.

When can I expect to receive my financial aid award letter?

The Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid generally issues aid offers by early April. For more details about the process, visit the Apply for Financial Aid and Receive Your Financial Aid webpages.
