Why NC State?

We know that searching for a college is a major endeavor. After all, college is more than just a financial investment — it’s an investment in your future. Whatever your decision, you (and your parents) want to make sure it’s one that prepares you not just for the next four years, but for the long term.
That’s why we want to help you get to know the real North Carolina State University. You might be surprised at what you’ll find: More than 110 bachelor degree programs in 10 colleges and 65 departments. And if you’re like some students, you may decide to stay and take your academic career even further by pursuing one of our many available master’s and doctoral degrees.
If you are you the type of person who likes to make things happen, you’re not alone. Students at NC State want to get involved now, not their second or third year. We believe there is no better time than the first day of your first year to start making a difference.
From conducting research alongside faculty and grad students in the lab or at Centennial Campus to service learning opportunities, study abroad and intramural sports, the choice is yours — because the choice exists.
Careers in your backyard
Many students and faculty from around the globe call Raleigh home. And it's no wonder why. Raleigh, the state’s capital city, is consistently ranked as one of the nation's best places to live and work. The Research Triangle region surrounds the NC State campus where many of the country’s leading, Fortune 500 technology, research and pharmaceutical companies are located.

Although instruction at NC State begins in the classroom, what sets us apart is how it almost always leads into laboratories — where students work side-by-side with leading researchers in their fields — or to stages, galleries and off-campus jobs, internships and co-ops that expose students to real-world challenges and experiences. World-class research programs supported by each of our degree tracks emphasize innovation and on-the-job experience. By the time most NC State students graduate, they have not only mastered their area of expertise, they have gained valuable job experience (and often job offers) and discovered the potential for inquiry and creativity within themselves.
