Elijah Gore
Heading into his senior year in high school, Elijah Gore was certain of two things. One, he wanted to attend a school in the South and two, he knew he would study engineering. He just wasn’t sure where.
The decision to attend NC State was cinched when the school’s Paper Science Engineering program offered him a full, out-of-state scholarship. Not only would the financial burden of college be lifted, but thanks to the assistance, Elijah would earn not one, but two BS degrees in only five years! “I decided to enroll in the program right away and soon fell in love with paper!” beams the Hopewell, VA, native.
Although he’s only a junior, Elijah already is networking with potential employers, browsing the university’s career center database full of employers looking for hard-working, driven students. “Some majors like Paper Science Engineering have great relationships with people inside the industry that come just to our department to interview with only our students.”
When Elijah pries himself away from the science of paper engineering, he likes to stay busy helping fellow students as a College of Natural Resources ambassador, Diversity Mentor, and Peer Mentor Recruitment Captain. And of course, he adds, “Tailgating with friends at football games, the Ram Roast and Pan Afrikan Week.”
