Andrew Caldwell
Senior Andrew Caldwell came to NC State University armed with an R.O.T.C. scholarship and dreams of becoming a medical officer.
With the university's array of majors available to him, Caldwell was confident that by joining the Wolfpack family, he was putting himself in the best position to gain a high-quality education while laying the groundwork for a future in the military.
"I started out as a Meteorology major at NC State, but I wasn't 100-percent sure that it was what I wanted to do for my career," said Caldwell, a squad leader with the university's Army R.O.T.C. "So, I started to look into other majors I could get into."
With choices ranging from engineering to history and most everything in between, Caldwell leaned on the expertise of his academic advisors to help him make a choice that would best chart his future path, but also allow him to remain involved in activities such as intramural sports, the university's Ambassador program and Alpha Epsilon Delta, a pre-med honors fraternity.
"I decided to get into Biochemistry, which would also satisfy my Pre-Medical requirements," he said. "Even with switching to a different major with different classes, my decision did not come with any graduation-delay penalty."
In addition to top-notch counsel, Caldwell said that one of the best things about NC State is the quality and attitude of the university's educators.
"The professors at NC State are there not only just to teach you the coursework, but to also see that you succeed in that course," he said. "Office hours that are designed with students in mind, where you can get detailed explanations from classes and even assistance with upcoming homework.
"Approachable professors help make NC State one of the best universities in the country."
