Raleigh on My Mind
Post by Sharon Nye
I’ve been away from Raleigh for about a month now, and I am really starting to miss Raleigh and the people who call it home. As you know I am currently living in Richmond, VA while I complete a semester long internship in order to finish up my Social Work Degree. So far the internship has been great, and my co-workers have been more than patient with me while I learn the ropes.
It didn’t take me long to adjust back to life in Richmond, but here are a few of the big things I miss about Raleigh:
- The People, after spending any time in Raleigh you will quickly realize how welcoming and fun the people are. My friends are amazing and have been keeping me updated about whats happening at NC State and in Raleigh. Now that classes have started up I will be coming down to Raleigh every weekend to attend a class and spend quality time with my friends who still live in Wolfpack Country.
- The College Atmostphere, the excitement and pride that comes with being part of the Wolfpack was one of the big reasons I chose to attend NC State over other schools. This past weekend when the NC State Men’s Basketball team beat the #1 ranked basketball team in the nation, I watched the game on TV as my fellow classmates stormed the court in celebration. It is that excitement and type of experience that I really miss while being away from Raleigh.
- The Raleigh Park and Greenway System, Raleigh and its suburbs are very green, interconnected communities. When I was living in Raleigh I spent alot of time running on the greenways and visiting the parks. The accessibility to green space is something I miss and will definitely take advantage of during visits to the City of Oaks.

Pullen Park has its own train that runs through the property
There are dozens of other things I miss, but these are just a few. I encourage all of you to take a trip to Raleigh and to NC State, and see for yourself what makes the experience so great!
Go Wolfpack!
