There are so many things you can do for 12.5 hours.  But dancing? Well, that’s exactly what NC State students did this past Friday.

Dance Marathon is a fundraising event held at schools across the country that helps raise money for the Children’s Miracle Network. This was the first year NC State has ever sponsored this event and we successfully raised over $60,000 for the Duke Children’s Hospital.

For months, NC State has been prepared to dance all night to help save lives. Each participant was asked to raise $150, although everyone was only required to have $40 raised to enter the event. For the participants who didn’t quite reach the $150 mark, a fundraising room was set up so they could send emails, Facebook posts, phone calls and tweets to get the last amount of money. As one of the participants that did not quite reach the goal, I was so excited to receive a donation during the marathon. (Thanks Grandma!)

There were so many activities at the overnight event. There were tons of performances from students like the popular singing groups Grains of Time and Ladies in Red.

Some of the greatest moments were the stories from the “Miracle Families” where we learned and met the families who would benefit from our fundraising. And of course there was plenty of dancing! There was a fun and catchy line dance done every hour and a moment to record a Harlem Shake video. We stood for those who can’t and it was definitely a great time! Hopefully this event for a great cause returns to NC State next year and for many years to come!
