International Freshman

How to apply

  1. Review Application Deadlines and International Freshman Admission Requirements.
  2. Create a wolfPAW account (NC State University’s Personal Admissions Website), and apply online.
  3. Log onto wolfPAW regularly to check your status.

Admission decisions for international applicants are made on a rolling basis after all required documents are received. You can track the status of your application, determine any missing documents, and view your admission decision through your wolfPAW account.

Apply Online: International Freshman Applicants

WolfPAW, NC State’s Personal Admissions Website, allows you to create an online profile, apply at your convenience, save your work, and review your changes before submitting a final application. In addition to applying online, wolfPAW provides:

  • information on campus visits, open houses and tours
  • email reminders about important dates and deadlines

A complete application includes:

  • a non-refundable $100 application fee (ACT, College Board, and NACAC fee waivers are not accepted)
  • proof of English proficiency
  • all uploads of secondary school transcripts and external examination results. (Records not issued in English must be accompanied by an English translation that is certified by an appropriate school official, official translator, or U.S. embassy or consulate official.)
  • Certificate of Financial Responsibility (only required for students needing F-1 and J-1 visas)
  • online portfolio and essay (required for studio-based major programs)

The following materials are optional:

  • personal statement (recommended and encouraged)
  • letter of recommendation (not required and not recommended). If you wish to submit a letter of recommendation, you may upload one letter through your wolfPAW account. Letters sent via mail, email or fax will NOT be reviewed and will be discarded.

Your decision will be displayed on your wolfPAW account after your complete application has been received and reviewed. See Dates and Deadlines for your application’s notification date.

Official Documents

Documents are considered official if they meet one of the following criteria:

  • The issuing institution sends them directly to NC State.
  • They are certified as true copies by an official of the educational institution, and embassy official, or an appropriate government official.

  2. Create a wolfPAW account (NC State University’s Personal Admissions Website), and apply online.
  3. Log onto wolfPAW regularly to check your status.

We will notify you of your admission decision after we receive all of your required documents. You can track the status of your application, determine any missing documents, and view your admission decision through your wolfPAW account.

WolfPAW, NC State’s Personal Admissions Website, allows you to create an online profile, apply at your convenience, save your work, and review your changes before submitting a final application. In addition to applying online, wolfPAW provides:

  • information on campus visits, open houses and tours
  • email reminders about important dates and deadlines

A complete application includes:

  • course-by-course evaluation for any coursework completed at any college or university outside the U.S.
  • unofficial transcript from each college and/or university attended uploaded through wolfPAW
  • proof of English proficiency
  • upload all secondary school transcripts and external examination results (Records not issued in English must be accompanied by an English translation that is certified by an appropriate school official, official translator, or U.S. embassy or consulate official.)
  • Certificate of Financial Responsibility (only required for students needing F-1 and J-1 visas)

Course-by-course Evaluation for International Transfer Students

Students who have attended any college or university outside the U.S. will need to submit a course-by-course evaluation.

The course-by-course evaluation is used only to determine if admissions requirements have been met. Your academic department determines how many foreign university credits will transfer to NC State University.
